Swachh Survekshan 2019: Making hat-trick for Indore will not be easy!

Swachh Survekshan-2019 will be more tough in comparison to the early Survekshan that have been conducted by the Central Government and this will make it difficult for Indore to retain country’s cleanest city tag for third time in a row.

IMC has set a target under which composting units will be set up in 50,000 houses by December end for disposal of wet garbage at source. The Mayor has asked corporators to encourage people to set up composting units at their houses. IMC wants one colony of 1,000 people in each municipal ward where composting unit can be set up.

In 2017, the launch of door-to-door collection garbage, dust free roads and garbage bin-free city helped Indore to win cleanest city tag. In 2018, segregation of waste at source helped it to retain the tag. “This year, disposal of wet waste at source and 3R initiative will help us in retaining the tag,” Gaud added.

Swachh Survekshan-2019 will carry 5000 marks. “1250 marks will be for certification – 250 marks for ODF++ certification and 1000 marks for newly introduced seven-star certification. We should get full marks in this parameter,” she stated.

In his address, municipal commissioner Asheesh Singh said six teams will visit Indore for cleanliness survey in next four months. “Make sure, we score maximum marks in each survey,” he said. Singh pointed out that gap of marks obtained by Indore, Bhopal and Chandigarh is narrow. “As a result, IMC will have will have to work harder but residents also need to cooperate,” he added.

In last two Survekshan’s Indore scores poorly in citizen feedback

Addressing the workshop, additional municipal commissioner Rohan Saxena said Indore scored poorly in citizen feedback in last two cleanliness surveys. “We can’t afford it this year as other cities are giving us tough competition,” he said. He said that citizen feedback parameter would consist of 1250 marks. Under it, central team will ask seven questions to people. “On this basis, we will get marks. So, people should be made aware of the exercise,” he said.

Indore first to apply for 3 star rating

Indore applied for three star rating on Friday thus becoming the first city in the country to do so since Swachh Survekshan-2019 was launched. As per norms, municipal corporation of the city has to declare itself garbage- free and then apply for star ratings.

Following the process, mayor Malini Gaud declared Indore garbage free and claimed three star rating while inviting central team for assessment of her claim. Once Indore gets three star rating, it will apply for four, then five and eventually for seven star rating. “You can’t claim seven star rating directly. There is a set process for applying for stars,” Saxena said. State government would recommend star for city and then an independent agency will carry out inspection. Based on its report, star rating would be awarded.
