Swachh Sarvekshan 2018: Indore retains No.1 Tittle of The cleanest city of India

Indore, The city of Holkars has begged No.1 in Swachh Survekshan 2018 and is the cleanest city of India once again. Swachh Survekshan 2018, organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), for 4203 Urban Local Bodies. Compared to the previous surveys, this year’s survey was allocated substantial weight age to the feedback from citizens based on their daily experience. Indore was the cleanest city last year as well but that survey was conducted only for around 430 cities. This time it was conducted for around 4,200 cities. The Hard work and Collective efforts made by the civic authorities, various social and religious organizations and the resident of the city have paid off with the No.1 Crown.

Indore’s Master Plan to Become No.1

Indore was a city once ranked 25th among cities across the country, a journey to reach topmost position and maintain it consecutively for the second time was a great task but with the hard work and tireless efforts, Indore has made it again.

IMC followed a systematic approach to retain the No.1 title; it has strengthened the door to door garbage collection activity with a fleet of more than 600 vans and hundreds of Swachhta Mitra along with the segregation of waste at the source. The civic authority also developed advanced transfer station to facilitate the waste collection process.

A step ahead IMC also made it mandatory for all the gated community to process the wet waste generated in their community within the premises by building compost pits. Now, all the societies, townships and communities’ converts’ wet waste generated in their areas into compost by themselves.

Corporation constructed 13,000 public toilets last year to make the city open defecation free. This year the civic body ensured that cleanliness of toilets along with facilitating it with water and light. IMC also enhanced and strengthens the drive of spot fine for littering and for spitting on roads. Thousands of challans were made to bring a change in behavior among people and develop civic sense among the resident.
