#MissionMillion2018 - War Against Hunger on Independence Day

There are about 800 million hungry people in the world. And 82% of them live in countries with food surpluses, not shortages. So where exactly is the challenge? The challenge is not a lack of food—it is making food consistently available to everyone who needs it. A drive includes collecting surplus food from restaurant partners and then hitting the roads to feed the hungry.

But in between our busy jobs, responsibilities, traffic and social life, are we really bothered about problems like hunger and food wastage? Do we engage in anything that is motivated only by the desire to serve the hungry, needy and homeless? Don’t feel hopeless reading this. The world might not have a heroic Englishman dressed in green called Robin Hood anymore, but has something better to offer with the Robin Hood Army (RHA). This is an organization that works to eliminate food wastage and hunger not by stealing food but just allocating it better.

Who are these Robin Hoods?

The Robin Hood idea is simple – young professionals have taken to the streets in their free time to fight national hunger – we collect excess food from restaurants and distribute it to the less fortunate. Through a passionate team and the help of social media, in three years we have served food to 6.4 million people across 77 cities. We have a strict no-funds approach, we scale up through partnerships and volunteers.

What started as an act of kindness amongst six friends one night three years ago has turned into a movement spreading its wings to 41 cities and serving over 21 lakh meals to hungry stomachs. What has been amazing to witness is the growth of RHA in the tier-2 cities of our country. From Kolhapur to Surat, from Udaipur to Ujjain, there are people who take out time to make a difference in small and big ways. Whether it is contributing a home-cooked meal to picking up supplies from a local restaurant, every volunteer makes a difference.

In the largest ever war against hunger, #MissionMillion2018 will mobilize Indians across the country through 16,000+ “Robins” to serve food and smiles to ONE MILLION countrymen on 15th August. This will be the single largest, most unprecedented act of giving undertaken by the citizens of our country (without raising money) – we would like you to play your role
Through a video and tech platform, the goal is to make the hunger issue something which is talked about and concerns the entire country – and mobilizes leaders into action to build a hunger-free India.

The meals would go to orphanages, old-age homes, homeless people and ailing patients and their families across the city. The operations will be taken care off by RHA volunteers, logistics and reach is owned by partnerships with the private sector and media houses. One important point to note: we will not collect funds/donations for this project – the best way to contribute is through the power of your outreach.
