Indore creates new milestone - 34 Green Corridors in 34 Months

An organ donation move by a city that has given new life to many patients. Yes, proudly saying that Indore has become the first city in central India to create 34 green corridors in last 34 months,  Two more green corridors were created on Sunday for speedy transportation of vital organs of the 15-year-old Anjali Talreja.

The first corridor was prepared at 5.52 pm between Shalby Hospital and CHL Hospital for transporting liver while another corridor was created at 5.58 pm from Shalby Hospital to Choithram Hospital for ferrying kidney. Indore Organ Donation Society secretary Dr. Sanjay Dixit said one of the kidneys of the patient was transplanted in a patient in Shalby Hospital while another was transplanted to a patient in Choithram Hospital.

“Liver of the girl was transplanted to a patient suffering from liver cirrhosis. Heart of girl was not fit for transplant. We had tried to use lungs but couldn’t get a match and response from hospitals in the country,’ Dr Dixit said. Anjali, a resident of Harda, had met with an accident. “She was shifted to Shalby Hospital on August 11 in critical condition where a team of doctors declared her brain dead at 3.15 am and then at 9.25 am on Sunday. Her cornea and skin were also harvested for transplant.

The decision for transplant was taken as per the list of waiting patients in NOTTO and SOTTO. Anjali is survived by parents, a 10-year-old brother and a 16-year-old sister. The first corridor, for transporting liver, was prepared at 5.52 pm between Shalby Hospital and CHL Hospital. The ambulance covered the distance in 6 minutes. The second corridor, for transporting kidney, was prepared at 5.58 pm between Shalby Hospital and Choithram Hospital. The ambulance reached the hospital in 16 minutes at 6.24 pm.
